Kalifornia Redemption - The Kal Red Anthology 12" LP
Kalifornia Redemption were an energetic skate punk band that started in 1997 and broke up in 2001. College mates Chris Everett (guitar), John "Metal" Burns (bass) and long time friends Mac Beauchemin (drums) and Dan Brown (vocals) formed the band while attending Sonoma State University, wanting to incorporate their collective love of punk, instrumental surf and ska. The end result was the band's first album, NOT IT!, which showcased their diverse style. Recorded at Grizzly Studios in Petaluma, CA - the band played a ton of shows in and around the greater Bay Area, and toured from California to Florida and back with their friends in Tsunami Bomb shortly after the release of the album. "Metal" had left the band just before the tour, so the band enlisted their old pal Josh Taguinod to fill in for the tour.
Josh was a much more accomplished guitar player, so the band reached out to their friend Andy Pohl to come in as the new bassist, with Josh moving over as a 2nd guitar player alongside Chris. With a new 5-piece lineup secured, the band kept at it with new songs, a West Coast tour with Loose Change, a full U.S. tour with pals Next II Nothing (NY) and Spicolie (Indianapolis). In their hometown, the band played shows supporting the likes of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Tilt, The Groovie Ghoulies, NoMeansNo, RKL, Diesel Boy, Bracket and more.
Their next album, The Caustic EP, was recorded at the famed Prairie Sun Studios in Cotati, CA with engineer Ralph Patlan at the board. The EP showcased the bands growth and maturity in songwriting, showing a bit more grit and edge in their sound. Following the release of the EP, the band embarked on a U.S. tour, but decided to call it a day shortly after.
